parc pen y bryn is a lovely rural campsite in north wales, not far from the border of the stunning snowdonia national park and right next door to one of north wales’s best kept secrets - the clocaenog forest Pen Y Bryn is Welsh for ‘top of the hill’, and surely Clocaenog is Welsh for ‘magical place’….and if it’s not then it should be. This glorious conifer forest covers an area of 100km2 and is pure Welsh Narnia, with towering trees, heather moorland, winding trails, hidden forest paths, waterfalls and good tracks for family cycling or horse riding. It is also home to one of the last remaining populations of red squirrels in Wales and an important area for the rare black grouse and many birds of prey. Also look out for otters, green finches and woodpeckers. Wildlife enthusiast or not, it’s all quite an incredible experience.
