Summary: The Chateau Getaway is a lovely older home with beautiful craftsmanship. The two Verandas had wonderful breezes and we enjoyed using them while playing cards, having drinks, watching the sunset & planning our adventures. There is no central AC or "split units" to help cool the house. The only 1st floor AC window unit did not work in that we couldn't change any of the settings, so it was stuck in eco mode at 82 degrees. We ended up not using it & kept it turned off. It was always very hot inside the house. However, the bedroom AC window units worked well, especially in the 2nd bedroom. It was the coolest room in the house so our family would watch late night movies in there. The bedroom mattresses were on the firmer side & all "pillows" were very flat, firm & quite unusal. The linens & towels were very soft & comfy. The kitchen & both bathrooms need to be updated & all were quite hot, but they were sufficient for our needs. The interior of the house could use a thorough cleaning. The floors would darken/dirty our feet so we would have to wash our feet before bedtime. The furniture was dusty, there were cobwebs, lots of tiny ants & some other bugs inside the house. The ants & bugs may be part of living in a hot and humid climate. To help, Elizabeth the hostess asked the house mngr to spray the exterior of the house while we were out one day. We did check in 2 hrs early which we were very thankful for, so maybe the cleaning was rushed. The front grounds along the driveway & near the front steps are quite pretty. Other portions of the yard had a lot of "stuff" stored on it taking away from the charm of the Chateau. Elizabeth the hostess was wonderful! She was informative, helpful, very easy to contact & very responsive. She coordinated our taxi ride from the airport to the Chateau, making our arrival very easy, which we appreciated. She also provided contact info for scooter, boat & taxi businesses. I would suggest the following ideas to Elizabeth to help improve one's stay at the Chateau: Have the entire interior thoroughly cleaned; Repair/replace the first floor AC Unit; Provide fluffier pillows; Relocate the items being stored outside elsewhere/behind the Chateau & Rehang the "Chateau Getaway" sign at the end of the driveway to make finding the driveway a bit easier. Overall, the house has a lot of charm, is large/perfect for families & a good deal for the price.
