DESCRIPTION: This 3+- bedroom villa is a true diamond that glitters in the hills above Coral Bay. Solemare (meaning sun and sea) was the dreamhouse of a successful Italian American who grew up in Italy and frequently vacationed in the Mediterranean islands. He fell in love with St. John and retained a renown St. John architect to custom design a classic Mediterranean style villa . He wanted a villa that would capture the romance and elegance of the villas he vacationed in on the Italian coast. With its timeless beauty and style, we think Solemare succeeds in bringing the ageless magnificence of Italy to St. John. We also think that this is a unique villa that you'll fall in love with, as intended by Corrado Bruzzo.
solemare is a large (4300 sq/ft) villa that consists of 2 buildings -a main house and a pool house - both with two levels and with a covered walkway connecting the two buildings You park above the villa and descend a flight of stairs down to the upper deck of the main house. Mahogany French doors lead from the upper deck into the gourmet kitchen. The handsome kitchen adjoins the spacious (1000 sq/ft) and comfortable great room, which is accessorized with fascinating antiquities and hung with colorful artwork that was commissioned by one artist expressly for Solemare. Even in today's Italy, the dinner table is a place of lively conversation and relaxed dining that sometimes stretches for hours. With that idea in mind, Solemare's dining table was located in a stunning setting with a majestic view that might keep you fixated around the table for hours. There is a half bath off the great room, and a marble interior stairway leads down to the bedroom on the lower level of the main house. Exterior stairs off the upper deck also lead down to the pool, pool deck and the main house lower bedrooms The pool house contains two large king bedrooms, both with exquisite marble and mahogany bathrooms. A covered walkway leads to the master bedroom on the upper level, while exterior stairs lead down to the pool deck and the lower bedroom of the pool house. Because this is Solemare, the master bedroom and the main house bedroom both have solarium showers so you can shower with the sun (and the stars).
location: solemare is located in coral bay, on the western hillside of bordeaux mountain Its majestic view looks out over outer Coral Bay, the East End of St. John, Tortola, Drakes Passage, and the necklace of islands that stretches from Norman Island all the way to Virgin Gorda and beyond. You are about a 25- 30 minute drive from Cruz Bay. The National Park beaches at Salt Pond Bay and Lameshur Bay are a 10-15 minute drive. The north shore beaches (Maho, Frances, Trunk Bays) are easily accessible from the Centerline Road and are about a 20 minute drive. On the drive from Solemare into Coral Bay there is an interesting selection of restaurant, bars, shops and grocery stores, all within a 3-10 minute drive. Various local restaurants such as Skinny Legs, Aqua Bistro, Rhumblines, Caribbean Oasis and Miss Lucy's offer a broad variety of food, from cheeseburgers to upscale gourmet dining and beverage options. Local musicians can sometimes be found during happy hours.
the last portion of the drive in to the home is a bumpy dirt road and a 4 wheel drive rental vehicle is necessary
living & dining: the spacious air-conditioned great room includes comfortable seating for 6-8 and there is a 46" smart tv for streaming shows from your netflix account Both are located in an armoire. The large arched windows are screened and open to allow the cooling trade winds to fill the room. A stereo system is included as is internet access.

kitchen: this gourmet kitchen is both functional and beautiful and is well equipped and supplied, including stainless steel appliances, a 4-burner gas stove and oven, d/w, granite counter tops, mahogany cabinets and an island bar that seats three All the usual small appliances such as a drip coffee maker, blender, toaster and others are included.
bedrooms: the 3 air-conditioned bedrooms all have king beds, and marble floors and all are larger than the usual villa bedroom Both the upper and lower bedrooms in the pool house have lovely views of distant islands, blue water and endless sky. The master bedroom opens to a small viewing deck while the 2 lower bedrooms open to the pool deck. Each bedroom has an adjoining beautiful marble and mahogany bathroom and a floor to ceiling marble shower..

Summary: Overall, this place was just what we hoped for on our honeymoon-had all the necessities for a long stay on St John. Even a nice welcomer on our arrival and a gallon of spring water waiting for us. Loved the jungle chorus at night, though it took a bit for my wife to get used to it. The one bummer was that the pool wasn't fully functional. We really really wanted an infinity pool and were willing to shell out for it. They warned us about a leak but never really explained that it wouldn't or couldn't be filled up all the way. So even though they came to fill it up a couple times, the water line was 1-2 feet below the edge, so instead of the great view we got concrete. This was the only major issue, but they did not address it as one might expect when spending ~700/night.
