Summary: We found this apartment on VRBO and learned afterwards that it is rented through Arbitel, a French website, which could explain the contrast between the rave reviews and our impression. Different expectations. Both of us are well traveled, and one of us is a property owner. This is a spacious, tastefully decorated apartment, with modern plumbing, but the amenities listed are not accurate. There are 16 spaces marked private. We felt that we were intruding on someone’s home. The only space for guests to unpack was a portion of the packed closet in the master bedroom where the owner’s clothes had been pushed aside, clothes hangers provided, and a small shelf above that had been cleared. The second bedroom had a locked closet and no space to put guests’ personal items. The small bedroom did not even have a sheet on the bed, and the master bedroom’s bed had bedding but was it was up to the guest to make up the bed. Plenty of towels, soap, etc. The only working coffee maker is the smallest Italian stove-top espresso maker, fine for one person. The stove top still has only two burners that work. The location was not convenient for restaurants, etc. There are several bars nearby, one that served tapas where we did eat, but restaurant choices are a steep hike up the hill to Croix Rousse. Patrick, the owner is great about responding to questions, and Marie who met us was lovely and helpful. This property sadly is not what we expect when renting through VRBO.
