Positive: We checked in a little earlier, which was no problem as we were immediately given our room key. There was no private car park and, as we are both in our seventies, we initially had to park on the wide pavement outside just by the front door to offload our luggage, which drew criticism from local pedestrians. There were double yellow lines all around and so we were able then to park for free in the town car park a couple of hundred yards away, which was good. We booked an evening meal and were very pleasantly surprised by the dining area in the conservatory, which was really lovely, and this led to a lovely extensive garden with a large patio with tables. These amenities are not initially obvious upon entering the hotel !! Food was excellent, both breakfast and evening meal were great experiences with very helpful and friendly staff. The room was clean and comfortable and as our room overlooked the street, there was a very useful blind which, when raised upwards from the window sill, protected our privacy, but still let the daylight in. All in all, a very pleasant stay in a very interesting little Cornish town.

Negative: We entered through the front door from the street and first impressions from the hallway were not great, as it was dark and led to a gloomy corridor with the stairs straight ahead. We did not realise until later that the corridor actually led to a beautiful light and airy dining area and garden, both full of plants, which was a revelation..

Summary: A perfect spot to stay when exploring the west coast of Cornwall, with lots of local interest.
