Positive: Lovely location, overlooking Wootton Creek, which is so attractive and atmospheric. A quiet, peaceful place. Wootton is a village I know well, having lived there as a child, and it was so nice to go down memory lane recalling happy times, and be able to spend time with our family who still live on the island. It's about 10 minutes walking distance to the village, which has every convenience including a Tesco Express, fish and chip shop, chemist, cafe, and a very good pub, The Sloop, where an excellent buffet breakfast and/or Sunday carvery can be enjoyed whilst looking out over the creek. We partook in both... yum! The property is a good base from which to access many places throughout the island. Endless walks are close at hand, and the island is known for it's excellent bus service so it would be easy to leave the car and go exploring. 'Totland' has all the equipment you might need throughout your stay. The kind provision of a pint of milk, tea bags, coffee sachets, and a packet of biscuits was appreciated so that we could have a cuppa on arrival. There is a bright and airy lounge to relax in, with plentiful supply of games, puzzles and books, and a good smart TV. The sofas are much comfier than they look, and could be used as guest beds, if required. The two bedrooms are small, but adequate, and each has a 'compact' en-suite shower room. There is no garden, but the property does have a nice little private decking area out front, with table and chairs to sit and enjoy the scenery whilst sipping on a coffee...or glass of wine. Sadly the weather was not conducive to our taking advantage of it, but the huge patio doors still gave us a great view from inside.

Negative: I dislike saying anything negative, but it is only fair to be honest. Although the property would be absolutely excellent for the warmer months, it is markedly less so for colder times. We were very cold throughout our stay, and yet we are quite 'hardy' folk. Heating is supplied via storage radiators and we had no clue how to operate the system. The radiator in the lounge was on, some of the time (it seemed warmest at 6.15am but had gone off by mid morning) but the hall one was barely tepid at any time, and the bedroom heaters were never on at all. There was a boost button on the main lounge radiator, but we were reluctant to use it too often as we know it would rack up the electricity bill for the owner. The other dials on it were a mystery to us! There is no heating at all in the kitchen and it was quite literally like a fridge, at all times. No heating in the shower rooms. Fan heaters in the upstairs en-suites were not working. All was not lost, though....we went off to the Tesco superstore at Ryde and bought a cosy blanket to supplement the rather lightweight quilt and to snuggle under whilst watching tv, and a warm fluffy top to wear in bed!

Summary: Lovely location, quiet and peaceful, and close to amenities.
