Summary: We had a wonderful time at Palmetto Bay. The house was huge and lovely and had everything we needed, including the biggest selection of towels and beach towels I've ever gotten at an ocean stay....usually there's never enough. We were surrounded by nature, fruit trees, palms, hummingbirds. The food at the restaurant was great and having an alternative just up the road with the Brewery was great too for days we didn't want to schlep into a town. Otherwise, we loved being away from the bustle and shops and more touristy spots, but still only 20-25 minutes away from all those activities. Two big highlights were the on-site dive shop, which was absolutely top notch...beyond great service...one of my favorite dive operations I've ever dove with. For a change, we also went down to Sandy Bay to their sister operation and had an equally great experience. The second highlight were the resident dogs...Grace, Malta and Flaca are the sweetest, most well-behaved strays that hang at the beach and occasionally slept on our huge porch to greet us every morning. We bought a small bag of dog food and they adopted us for the week, cuddling like family, following us to the pool, etc. We didn't miss our dogs at home so much. My only tiny complaint was that the bar/restaurant plays island themed music from opening to close 11-9. They turned it down when we asked, but honestly, we chose to be a little off the beaten path because we'd prefer the sounds of nature or conversation. I'm sure some people like that on vacation, but maybe only play music for 4-5 hours a day instead of 10.
