also, during the renaissance noble florentine families, including the medici, chose this area for their summer residence Local historians think that the Villa Maria Doria was built around 500 years ago as that is the age of the olive trees that surround it.
over the years the buildings have been re-structured to accommodate contemporary life-styles but bits of history can still be found on the existing buildings
